This website has been prepared to serve as a guide as you plan for retirement. The transition from employment to retirement status is sometimes stressful, often due to uncertainty caused by a lack of information. Hopefully, information provided here will be of some help in assisting with as smooth a transition as possible.

Don't wait until the last minute to investigate retirement requirements. Your uninterrupted financial security depends on planning ahead and getting the process started months before your actual retirement date. It takes two to four months to process the papers for your first retirement check, so it is important for you to begin early.

Beginning The Process

In order to begin the retirement process, you must contact the Maine State Retirement System. You will be required to provide information concerning previous contracts so that an estimate of your monthly benefit can be prepared. If you choose to retire, you must notify MSRS of your intent, in writing, so that the appropriate paperwork can be mailed to you.
