When you leave your active involvement in teaching, it is even
more important that you stay in touch with your organizations
in retirement so that you can be fully informed.
By doing so you will assure yourself the most up-to-date information
on what is happening in the field of education, of improvements
in or dangers to your health and economic benefits, and who are
the persons you may need to contact for assistance.
If you are a member of the state retirement system, a membership
application and payroll deduction form will be sent to you by
the MEA upon notification of your retirement. If you do not belong
to the retirement system, membership applications and information
are available from the MEA, 35 Community Drive, Augusta, Maine
04330.

The Maine Association Education Retired is open to any educator
or educational support person retiring from any public or private
school in Maine upon payment of unified dues to the MEA-R, Maine
Education Association and the National Education Association Retired.
It is also open to any educator who retired from another state
or from a private school or college which had no employee relationship
with the MEA by the payment of dues to the MEA-R only. Spouses
of members who would not be eligible for active membership may
join as Associate Members.
Closely afilliated with the MEA-R are 16 County Associations which
retired educators are encouraged to join.
The MEA-R is governed by a Board of Directors that is composed
of its officers, committee chairpersons, the Presidents and Vice
Presidents of the County Associations and the MEA-R delegates
to the Maine Education Association Representative Assembly. An
Executive Committee of the seven officers meets periodically to
prepare recommendations for the Board.
MEA-R's expressed purpose is to promote the economic, professional
and social welfare of retired teachers.
